Bonnie Franklin (Deceased) Bonnie Franklin was an American actress best known for starring as Ann Romano on the television sitcom One Day at a Time. She was born on January 6, 1944, in Santa Monica, California. Franklin began performing as a child and appeared in television, film, and stage productions. She gained major recognition on Broadway in the musical Applause, earning a Tony Award nomination for her performance. Her defining role came in 1975 when she was cast as Ann Romano, a divorced mother raising two teenage daughters, played by Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli, on One Day at a Time. The series ran for nine seasons and was notable for addressing family, divorce, relationships, and social issues from the perspective of a single working mother. After the series ended, Franklin continued acting in television and theater and made guest appearances on several programs. She was also active in charitable and educational causes. Bonnie Franklin died on March 1, 2013, at age 69, from pancreatic cancer.
