John Sebastian - Lovin' Spoonful

John Sebastian John Sebastian is an American singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the founder and lead singer of the 1960s rock band The Lovin’ Spoonful. He was born on March 17, 1944, in New York City and grew up in a musical household. With The Lovin’ Spoonful, Sebastian wrote or co-wrote a string of major hits, including “Do You Believe in Magic,” “Daydream,” “Summer in the City,” “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” and “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?” The group became one of the most popular American bands of the mid-1960s. After leaving the band, Sebastian pursued a solo career. He made a memorable unscheduled appearance at the 1969 Woodstock festival and later achieved a No. 1 hit with “Welcome Back,” the theme song for the television series Welcome Back, Kotter. Sebastian is also an accomplished guitarist, harmonica player, and autoharp player. His songwriting helped blend folk, blues, pop, and rock influences during a formative period in American popular music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Lovin’ Spoonful in 2000.
