O'Jays - Love Train

The O'Jays are an American R&B and soul vocal group best known for a series of major hits during the 1970s. Formed in Canton, Ohio, in the late 1950s, the group eventually became identified with the powerful Philadelphia soul sound created by producers and songwriters Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. The best-known lineup featured Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, and William Powell. The O'Jays achieved their commercial breakthrough in 1972 with "Back Stabbers," which became a major pop and R&B hit. They followed it with enduring favorites including "Love Train," "For the Love of Money," "I Love Music," "Use Ta Be My Girl," and "Darlin' Darlin' Baby (Sweet, Tender, Love)." Their recordings combined rich vocal harmonies, strong rhythms, orchestral arrangements, and socially conscious lyrics. "Love Train" became one of their signature songs, while "For the Love of Money" gained lasting recognition for its distinctive bass line and cautionary message about greed. The O'Jays remained popular for decades and continued performing long after their peak chart years. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. With their polished harmonies, energetic performances, and long string of memorable recordings, the O'Jays are regarded as one of the most important vocal groups in the history of soul and R&B music.
