Robert Mitchum - The Night of the Hunter

Robert Mitchum (Deceased) was an American actor known for his relaxed screen presence, deep voice, and ability to portray tough, morally complex characters. Born Robert Charles Durman Mitchum on August 6, 1917, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he became one of the defining stars of film noir and classic Hollywood. Mitchum rose to prominence during the 1940s and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for "The Story of G.I. Joe." He became especially associated with crime dramas and film noir, starring in classics such as "Out of the Past," "Crossfire," and "The Big Steal." One of his most famous performances came in "The Night of the Hunter" (1955), in which he played the sinister preacher Harry Powell. He later gave another memorable villainous performance as Max Cady in "Cape Fear" (1962), opposite Gregory Peck. Mitchum also appeared in major films including "River of No Return" with Marilyn Monroe, "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison," "The Sundowners," "El Dorado," "Ryan's Daughter," and "The Longest Day." His career extended into television, including the popular miniseries "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance." Robert Mitchum died on July 1, 1997, at age 79.
