Sally Field

Sally Field is an American actress and director whose career has spanned television, film, and stage for more than six decades. Born November 6, 1946, in Pasadena, California, she first became widely known through television comedies before establishing herself as one of Hollywood's most respected dramatic actresses. Field gained early fame starring in "Gidget" and later "The Flying Nun." Although those lighthearted roles made her a television favorite, she worked hard to expand into more serious material and earned critical acclaim for the television movie "Sybil." Her film career includes major roles in "Smokey and the Bandit," "Norma Rae," "Absence of Malice," "Places in the Heart," "Steel Magnolias," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Forrest Gump," and "Lincoln." She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for both "Norma Rae" and "Places in the Heart." Field is also remembered for her long-running screen partnership with Burt Reynolds, particularly in "Smokey and the Bandit." Later generations came to know her as Mrs. Gump, the devoted mother of Tom Hanks' character in "Forrest Gump."
