Bettye Swann (born October 24, 1944) is an American soul singer and songwriter best known for the 1967 hit “Make Me Yours,” which reached number one on the R&B chart. Born Betty Jean Champion in Shreveport, Louisiana, she began recording during the 1960s and became admired for her warm, expressive voice and blend of Southern soul, pop, and country influences. Her other notable recordings include “Don’t Wait Too Long,” “Fall in Love with Me,” and “Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye.”
