The Bee Gees were a British-Australian pop group formed by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Born on the Isle of Man and raised partly in Manchester, England, the brothers moved with their family to Australia in the late 1950s, where they began performing professionally. The group first achieved international success in the late 1960s with songs such as “To Love Somebody,” “Massachusetts,” and “I Started a Joke.” During the 1970s, the Bee Gees reinvented their sound and became closely associated with the disco era. Their contributions to the 1977 film *Saturday Night Fever* included the hits “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” and “How Deep Is Your Love,” helping make the soundtrack one of the best-selling albums of all time. The Bee Gees were also highly successful songwriters, writing or producing hits for artists including Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, and Diana Ross. Their distinctive vocal harmonies and Barry Gibb’s falsetto became trademarks of their sound. Maurice Gibb died in 2003, and Robin Gibb died in 2012. Barry Gibb continued performing and recording as a solo artist. The Bee Gees were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and remain one of the most commercially successful groups in popular music history.
