Shelly Winters

Shelley Winters (Deceased) Shelley Winters was an American actress whose career spanned more than six decades. She was born Shirley Schrift on August 18, 1920, in St. Louis, Missouri. Winters began her career playing glamorous blonde characters but later established herself as a highly respected dramatic actress. She won Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress for The Diary of Anne Frank and A Patch of Blue. Her other notable films included A Place in the Sun, The Night of the Hunter, Lolita, Alfie, and The Poseidon Adventure, for which she received another Academy Award nomination. Winters was also an accomplished stage and television performer and appeared in numerous Broadway productions and television programs. Later generations knew her from guest appearances on shows including Roseanne. Known for her outspoken personality and colorful stories about Hollywood, Winters also wrote several autobiographical books recounting her career and friendships with many famous performers. Shelley Winters died on January 14, 2006, at age 85, following heart failure.
