Jimmy Spencer Jimmy Spencer is an American former professional race car driver and television commentator best known for his career in NASCAR. He was born on February 15, 1957, in Berwick, Pennsylvania. Nicknamed “Mr. Excitement” for his aggressive and colorful driving style, Spencer first established himself in modified racing. He won the NASCAR Modified championship in both 1986 and 1987 before advancing to NASCAR’s national divisions. Spencer competed in 478 NASCAR Cup Series races and scored two Cup victories, both in 1994 while driving for Junior Johnson. He won the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway and the DieHard 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. He also enjoyed considerable success in what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series, winning 12 races, and earned one victory in the NASCAR Truck Series. Spencer is among the relatively small group of drivers to win races in all three of NASCAR’s major national series. After his driving career, Spencer became a television personality and commentator, appearing on SPEED network programs including NASCAR RaceDay, NASCAR Victory Lane, and NASCAR Race Hub. His outspoken personality made him a memorable figure both on and off the racetrack.
