Crystal Gayle Crystal Gayle is an American country and pop singer best known for her smooth voice, crossover success, and signature floor-length hair. She was born Brenda Gail Webb on January 9, 1951, in Paintsville, Kentucky, and is the younger sister of country music legend Loretta Lynn. Gayle began her recording career in the early 1970s and developed a more polished country-pop style that distinguished her from her sister. She achieved international fame with the 1977 hit “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” which became her signature song and won her a Grammy Award. Her other successful recordings include “Talking in Your Sleep,” “Half the Way,” “Ready for the Times to Get Better,” “You and I,” a duet with Eddie Rabbitt, and “Why Have You Left the One You Left Me For.” Gayle became one of country music’s most successful crossover performers of the late 1970s and 1980s.
