Patti Page (Deceased) Patti Page (1927–2013) was an American singer whose warm, smooth vocal style made her one of the most successful female recording artists of the 1950s. Born Clara Ann Fowler in Claremore, Oklahoma, she began her professional career singing on radio before signing with Mercury Records in the late 1940s. Page became known for her versatility, recording pop, country, and traditional standards. Her signature recording, “Tennessee Waltz,” became a massive hit in 1950 and is one of the best-selling singles of its era. Other popular recordings included “(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?,” “Old Cape Cod,” “Mockin’ Bird Hill,” and “Allegheny Moon.” An innovative aspect of Page’s early recordings was the use of overdubbing, allowing her voice to be layered into multiple harmony parts at a time when multitrack recording was still uncommon. During her lengthy career, Page sold tens of millions of records and continued performing well beyond her peak chart years. She also appeared on television and hosted several variety programs. Page received numerous honors for her contributions to American popular music, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She died in 2013 at the age of 85.
