Ricky Rudd - NASCAR Hall of Fame

Ricky Rudd Ricky Rudd is a retired American stock car racing driver best known for his long and successful career in NASCAR’s top series. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1956, Rudd began racing professionally in the 1970s and became one of NASCAR’s most durable competitors. He earned the nickname “The Rooster” and developed a reputation for toughness, consistency, and an aggressive driving style. Rudd won more than 20 races in NASCAR’s premier series during a career that lasted more than three decades. Among his notable victories were wins at tracks such as Richmond, Martinsville, and Indianapolis. In 1997, he won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, one of the most prestigious events on the NASCAR schedule. He drove for several prominent teams, including those owned by Richard Childress, Bud Moore, Rick Hendrick, Robert Yates, and the Wood Brothers. Rudd also operated his own race team for several seasons. One of his most remarkable accomplishments was a streak of nearly 800 consecutive NASCAR starts, reflecting his exceptional durability. Rudd retired from full-time competition after the 2007 season. In 2025, he was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport.
