George Jones

George Jones (Deceased) George Jones (1931–2013) was an American country music singer and songwriter widely regarded as one of the greatest vocalists in the history of country music. Born in Saratoga, Texas, Jones began performing as a teenager and recorded his first records in the 1950s. He achieved his first major success with “Why Baby Why” and went on to record dozens of country hits during a career spanning more than five decades. Among his best-known songs are “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “The Grand Tour,” “White Lightning,” “The Window Up Above,” and “She Thinks I Still Care.” His distinctive voice, emotional phrasing, and ability to convey heartbreak made him a major influence on generations of country singers. Jones was also known for his turbulent personal life, including struggles with alcohol and drugs. His marriage to fellow country star Tammy Wynette produced several successful duets, including “Golden Ring” and “We’re Gonna Hold On.” He eventually overcame many of his personal difficulties and continued performing and recording into his later years. Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992. He died in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2013 at age 81, leaving behind one of country music’s most influential recording legacies.
