Alice Ghostley - Bewitched

Alice Ghostley (Deceased) (August 14, 1923 – September 21, 2007) was an American actress and comedian best known for her distinctive comic performances on television, stage, and film. Born in Eve, Missouri, Ghostley began her career in theater and became known for her work on Broadway. She won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window in 1965. On television, she became especially familiar to audiences as Esmeralda, the shy and frequently flustered witch on Bewitched. She also appeared as Bernice Clifton on Designing Women, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination and became one of her most memorable later performances. Ghostley made numerous guest appearances on television programs including The Odd Couple, Maude, Good Times, and The Golden Girls. Her film credits included To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), The Graduate (1967), Grease (1978), and Addams Family Reunion (1998). Known for her nervous mannerisms, expressive face, and excellent comic timing, Ghostley became a popular and recognizable character actress whose career lasted for more than five decades.
