Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg (born November 13, 1955) is an American actress, comedian, author, and television personality known for her distinctive voice, sharp humor, and wide-ranging dramatic and comedic performances. Born Caryn Elaine Johnson in New York City, she developed a one-woman stage show that brought her national attention and led to her breakthrough film role in The Color Purple (1985). Her performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Goldberg later won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Ghost (1990), in which she played psychic Oda Mae Brown. Her other notable films include Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Sister Act, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, The Player, and Corrina, Corrina. She has also worked extensively in television and theater and became a longtime co-host of the daytime talk show The View. Goldberg is one of the relatively few performers to achieve EGOT status, having won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. Her career has made her one of the most recognizable and successful entertainers of her generation.
