Jean-François Clervoy

Jean-François Clervoy (born November 19, 1958) is a French engineer and former astronaut with the French space agency CNES and the European Space Agency (ESA). He was born in Longeville-lès-Metz, France, and trained as an aerospace engineer before being selected as an astronaut. Clervoy flew on three NASA Space Shuttle missions. His first flight was STS-66 aboard Atlantis in 1994, followed by STS-84 aboard Atlantis in 1997, a mission to the Russian Mir space station. His third flight was STS-103 aboard Discovery in 1999, during which the crew performed a servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. During his career, Clervoy accumulated more than 675 hours in space. He later held management and technical positions with ESA and contributed to European human spaceflight programs. Clervoy has also been active in promoting science, engineering, and space exploration to the public.
