George Takei - Sulu in Star Trek

George Takei - (born April 20, 1937) is an American actor, author, and activist best known for portraying Hikaru Sulu in the original *Star Trek* television series and several related films. Born in Los Angeles, Takei spent part of his childhood with his family in Japanese American incarceration camps during World War II. That experience later became a major focus of his public speaking and writing. Before *Star Trek*, he appeared in numerous television programs and films, often playing supporting roles. His portrayal of Sulu made him an enduring figure in science-fiction culture. He later appeared in productions including *Heroes*, *The Big Bang Theory*, and the stage musical *Allegiance*, which was inspired by his family’s wartime experiences. Takei has written several books, including the graphic memoir *They Called Us Enemy*. He is also widely recognized for advocating for civil rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and greater public awareness of the incarceration of Japanese Americans.
