(Deceased) Morey Amsterdam (born December 14, 1908 – died October 27, 1996) was an American comedian, actor, writer, and musician best known for playing comedy writer Buddy Sorrell on the classic television series The Dick Van Dyke Show. Nicknamed “The Human Joke Machine” for his rapid-fire wit, Amsterdam also performed in vaudeville, radio, nightclubs, films, and numerous television programs. He was also a skilled cellist and songwriter whose entertainment career spanned more than six decades.
