Jim Davis

Jim Davis (born July 28, 1945) is an American cartoonist, writer and producer best known as the creator of Garfield, the lazy, lasagna-loving orange cat. The Garfield comic strip debuted nationally on June 19, 1978, and became one of the world’s most widely syndicated comic strips. Davis grew up on a farm near Marion, Indiana, surrounded by numerous cats, which later helped inspire his famous character. He has also written and produced Garfield television specials and animated programs, earning several Emmy Awards. His honors include the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award for outstanding cartoonist of the year.
