(Deceased) Kim Hunter (November 12, 1922 – September 11, 2002) was an American actress best known for playing Stella Kowalski in the film A Streetcar Named Desire, a performance that earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also portrayed the sympathetic chimpanzee scientist Zira in Planet of the Apes and two of its sequels. Hunter enjoyed a long career in film, television, and theater and won a Golden Globe Award as well as an Emmy Award.
