Eddie Albert

**(Deceased) Born April 22, 1906** Eddie Albert was an American actor whose career in film, television, radio and theater spanned more than five decades. Born Edward Albert Heimberger in Rock Island, Illinois, he began his career as a singer and stage performer before making his film debut in *Brother Rat* in 1938. Albert is best remembered for portraying Oliver Wendell Douglas, the New York attorney who becomes a farmer, in the classic television comedy *Green Acres*, which aired from 1965 to 1971. He later starred in the crime drama *Switch* and appeared in numerous other television programs. His film career included Academy Award-nominated supporting performances in *Roman Holiday* and *The Heartbreak Kid*. His other notable movies included *Oklahoma!*, *The Longest Day*, *The Longest Yard* and *Escape to Witch Mountain*. Albert also served in the United States Navy during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions during the Battle of Tarawa. He was also a longtime environmental and humanitarian advocate. Eddie Albert died on May 26, 2005, at the age of 99.
