C. Everett Koop

C. Everett Koop - Deceased (October 14, 1916–February 25, 2013) was an American pediatric surgeon and public health official who served as Surgeon General of the United States from 1982 to 1989. He became widely known for his outspoken leadership on smoking, AIDS awareness, and preventive health. Koop became one of the country’s strongest anti-smoking public-health advocates. He emphasized the dangers of smoking and secondhand smoke and helped make the Surgeon General’s office a much more visible force in tobacco education
